Philosophical Arguments for the Existence of God
The Cosmological
Argument:
All caused being depends for its existence on some uncaused
being.
The cosmos is a caused being.
Therefore, the cosmos depends for its existence on some
uncaused being.
This being we call God.
The Teleological Argument
Watches, houses, ships, machines, etc. all exhibit design,
and they are planned and produced by intelligent beings.
The universe exhibits design.
Therefore, the universe was planned and produced by an
intelligent being.
This being we call God.
The Ontological
Argument:
God is the greatest or most perfect being.
A being who exists is greater or more perfect than a being
who does not exist.
Therefore, God must exist.
The Moral Argument:
If there is an absolute moral law, then there must be an
absolute moral mind as its basis.
There is an absolute moral law.
Therefore, there must be an absolute mind as the basis of
the moral law.
